Uncle Sam loves you

That finger pointing Uncle Sam, what does he want now? More taxes, more protests, more problems, not at all. How about we dress up as this epitome of good old America and head to the neighborhood parade to show that being a citizen of this country is still a pretty good thing? Join the kids on their red, white and blue covered cars, bikes and tricycles and ride like you mean it, God bless America!

The origin of this revered type dates back to 1812 when army supplies purchased by the government contractor, Elbert Anderson, were inspected by Samuel Wilson, a worker referred to as “Uncle Sam.” The provisioning packages were marked EA-US to connote the initials of the recipient and the destination. However, a close observer jokingly commented that the United States represented Uncle Sam and, since then, the designation has remained a nickname for the American government.

Uncle Sam has been popular in political cartoons and army recruitment posters over the years. And indeed, the appearance of fictional Uncle Sam is said to be more like the real-life Samuel Wilson. To dress in an Uncle American Sam costume, you’ll need to don a wig, goatee, and sideburns, all in white to look like an older gentleman from centuries ago. A top hat adorned with stars and stripes and clothing that resembles the main design elements of the flag of the United States of America are also a must.

Sometimes you’ll see an Uncle Sam costume with bright red and white striped pants and a bright blue vest in a modern interpretation. It also seems like every parade has this patriotic dude on stilts and this is when you’ll have to order an extra long pair of pants for your 4th of July Sam costume! And to keep women out, there are also sexy women’s “Aunt Samantha” costumes that feature bold short skirts and fitted corsets to add a feminine touch to this well-known national symbol.
