The Transformers has been a household name for as long as we can remember. If you grew up in your eighties, you probably have a transforming toy or two. The Transformers television series was a big game changer for hitting the toy market with its aggressive push for the new animated series that took the world by storm. It was incorporated into toys, as well as any other item you can think of, that children of all ages want. From lunch toys to lunch boxes Transformers were everywhere and still are today.

There was also a Marvel comic that appeared around the same time as the Transformers TV series, but in the end it went in a completely different direction. The cartoon and the TV series shared a lot of similarities, but that’s the scope. With all the different varieties of Transformers, the cartoon series remains perhaps the most popular of all. People of all ages have been watching transformers and playing with transformer toys for many years. You can be sure that almost everyone has tried once or twice to change the toy from car to robot.

When people talk about the Transformers TV series, they most likely think of the story of how it all started. They will remember the transformers’ home planet Cybertron and how they crashed on Earth millions of years ago to meet and befriend a teenager. The boy had different names in the television series and in the comic. His name was Spike in the cartoon and Buster in the comic series.

Most of the kids were delighted with the new cartoon series when it came out. They had an action toy that could transform right before your eyes just as your imagination had dreamed of. The Transformers was popular from the first time it aired on television. Children of all ages were shopping for toys, comics, and watching the show as much as they could. They could have their own transformer adventures with their own action figures, then allowing for endless hours of pure enjoyment.

The show became popular with Star Wars fans for the way it began with the deep voice-over at first portraying it as a huge, mythological spectacle (“Many millions of years ago, on the planet Cybertron …”). Many of the main characters on the shows were idolized by children. These characters became icons and their legends are still relived in the hearts of children everywhere. Some of the main characters you might remember might be: Soundwave, Bumblebee, Ravage, and Jazz, to name a few.

The best known characters would be: Megatron, Optimus Prime and Starscream.

Transformers has been around and seen for over 23 years and it’s still going strong. For today’s baby boomers, they are just getting acquainted with Transformers with the new movie that came out and with their kids obsessed with mechanical wonders. It’s funny how kids can be soothed by the sounds of Peter Cullen saying “Autobots, transform and roll out!” These Autobots became heroes for many children.
