Remote Play is a feature that allows a PlayStation Portable user to interact with their PlayStation 3’s media bar. Users can access music, videos, photos, PlayStation games, and various applications stored on the PlayStation3’s hard drive, or drives. external flash and optical media connected to PlayStation 3.
Remote Play works by encoding a comet video stream from the output image on a PlayStation3, and then delivering it over a wireless network connection to a PSP. Actions performed on the PlayStation Portable, such as pressing buttons, are uploaded back to the PlayStation 3 over the same connection.
Audio can also be sent to and played by Sony’s PSP or instead delivered over the normal PlayStation 3 audio connections, allowing the PSP to be used as a remote for a PlayStation3 acting as a Media player. This is particularly useful if the console is connected to a video projector, as it means you don’t have to turn on the projector to play music.
The latest update includes the ability to use Remote Play over the Internet, turn on your PlayStation3 remotely, use dew apps, and play all PlayStation 3 games, whether they’re stored on the HDD or on an optical disc.
In the actual game, Remote Play can also allow Sony PSP to double as an additional tool. Demoing some racing games, Sony showed how Remote Play could make the PSP act like an in-game rearview mirror to help the player through the game.
