Smelly feet: how to combat and prevent foot odor

We’ve all experienced a musty smell emanating from our socks at one point or another, but for some people, foot odor is an everyday problem that affects their self-esteem. In extreme cases, you can even prevent them from having social interactions.

We’ve all been to places where the smell of feet hung in the air and nearly suffocated us. Most of us find this offensive, but many people find it difficult to get rid of this annoyance to avoid social embarrassment.

Where does the smell of feet come from?

The feet contain many sweat glands, so it is natural that they sweat profusely. Unfortunately, keeping your feet locked in shoes for most of the day doesn’t allow sweat to evaporate. That makes your feet and shoes wet. Wet shoes are a breeding ground for bacteria. Mix in moisture and bacteria, enclose that mix in an airtight environment, and you’ve got awesome foot odor.

Keep these tips in mind to avoid foot odor:

– Never wear the same shoes two days in a row. They need at least 24 hours to dry.

– Consider shoes that allow air flow: sandals in summer or shoes with leather soles. Canvas shoes that breathe easily can also be worn.

– Do you have to work overtime? Bring an extra pair of socks to work and change them at noon. You can also pack an extra pair of shoes in the trunk and change shoes during lunch.

– Wear socks made of natural fibers that allow air flow: cotton, wool, or bamboo. Consider buying wick absorbing socks, which draw moisture away from the skin so it evaporates.

– Before you go out in the morning, rub talcum powder or baby powder on your feet (and between your toes!) Before putting on your socks. That will control the humidity to some degree. But don’t let the powder get caked between your toes, as it can promote more moisture and odor.

– When you come from work, change your wet socks and wear slippers, not shoes.

Once foot odor settles, you can take these steps to remove it:

– Soak your feet in a solution of warm water and ½ cup of baking soda at the end of the day. You can add a couple of drops of lavender or eucalyptus essential oil.

– Dry your feet well, even between the toes.

– Rub talcum or baby powder on your feet. Clean up the excess.

– Only use natural fiber socks (cotton, wool or bamboo). Preferably those that mechan.

If the smell from your feet is offensive and anything you try doesn’t solve it, if your feet itch or hurt, or if you have redness, swelling, or drainage, talk to your healthcare provider for a solution.
