My Chinese Recipes – How to make Split Pea Pudding?

This time we have a traditional Chinese dessert, the split pea pudding.

We need some yellow split peas for this pudding, you can also substitute red kidney beans for the split peas. For kidney beans, you should save 4 cups of boiled water after boiling kidney beans until soft. This boiled water is used to replace the four cups of water mentioned in the ingredients. This pudding is usually served cold. For this reason, we always prepare the pudding 1 or 2 days before your party.

We can cut the pudding into small cubes and decorate with some pretty pecks after cooling. It will add some colors to your party and a perfect end to your menu, especially for children.

(Serving of 15 slices)

Ingredients:

20 oz yellow split peas

3 ounces cornstarch

1 cup of coconut milk

6 ounces of fresh milk

1/2 ounce of agar

4 cups of water

5 ounces of sugar

Method:

1. Rinse your mold with cold water.

2. Simmer yellow split peas until soft. Rinse and drain.

3. Mix cornstarch with coconut milk and fresh milk.

4. Dissolve the agar in four cups of boiling water, drain, and add the sugar-milk solution. When it thickens, add the yellow split peas and stir well.

5. To mix into your pan, cool and chill.

6. Cut into thick pieces, best served cold.

You may consider using some kinds of cartoon pudding molds, candy molds or ice maker molds. The pudding will turn out more beautiful and your guest will have more fun.
