How to make a wooden fingerboard

Most of the finger skateboards that can be found at large retailers are made of plastic. Many people find these basic plastic models unresponsive and want a wooden deck. With just a few tools and some veneer sheets, you can make your own wooden board.

What do you need:

Fingerboard Mold – Usually plastic, but can be found from other hard materials.

5-Sheet Wood Veneer – Thin sheets of maple or cherry wood are used and cut against the grain.

Wood glue: used to bond the veneer pieces together, a brush can also be used, but the fingers are fine.

Clamps: Holding the fingerboard mold compresses the wood.

Razor: Used to cut the shape of the fingerboard deck, scissors can also be used.

Sandpaper: Gives a smooth feel to the edges, starting with a rougher grain and working your way up to a smoother grain.

Plastic Tech Cover: Used to keep all the correct measurements.

1. Using your fingers, apply wood glue completely to the fronts of all veneer sheets.
2. Align the wood along the edges and place it in the mold, keeping the wood flat.
3. Hold the mold securely, wipe off excess wood glue, and allow it to set overnight.
4. Remove the clamps, place a technical platform over the glued veneer sheets, and trace the shape of the fingerboard.
5. Use the utility knife or scissors to carefully cut along the traced shape of the fretboard.
6. Sand around the wood fingerboard, achieving a smooth surface.
