Apartment Inspection Checklist

You have found an apartment that you like and you are eager to move into this beautiful place. Wait! Before you sign the lease with your landlord, an inspection is necessary and could save you a lot of trouble. If you have already signed the lease, it will be helpful to carefully inspect the apartment if you have not already done so. In case you find any problems, you should inform the landlord and fix the problems.

Below is an apartment inspection checklist.

1. Check the entrance: Does the door seal correctly? Does the lock work?

2. Check the floors: Any stains or material on the hardwood floor? Are the carpets clean?

3. Check ceilings and walls: Are there dents, cracks, or holes? Is the wallpaper in good condition? Wall painting in good condition?

4. Check electricity and lights: Are all the lights working? Do the electrical outlets work? Air conditioning working well? Ceiling fan working fine? Telephone socket in each room? Is there a cable tv connection?

5. Check the kitchen: are the taps dripping? Is the water pressure good? Are all appliances working and clean? Does the refrigerator look good and not make too much noise? Dishwasher working fine? Gas/electric stove working well? Does the microwave work?

6. Check the bathroom: Are the faucets leaking? Hot water from the shower? toilet working well?
Is the water pressure good?

7. Check security: Windows in good condition and secure? Does the intercom work? Do the locks on all the doors work? Do the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors work? Lead hazards?

If you have found problems with the apartment, write them down and show it to the landlord (keep a copy for yourself). Make sure the problems are fixed before you move.
