4 easy golf swing tips to straighten your tee shots

Many golfers deal with hitting a cut off the tee. No matter what adjustments they make, they still cut the ball, especially off the tee.

Then there are some golfers who have to avoid hooking the ball.

Amateur golfers struggle because they never learned the basics of a golf swing. Too often a new golfer starts playing because of a friend. They start without taking a single golf lesson.

Let’s go over 4 easy golf swing tips to straighten your tee shots.

Holding the golf club– The grip is where the rubber meets the road, so to speak. This is our only connection to the golf club. If your grip is wrong, then you have no chance of making a completely consistent golf swing.

Players who hook their ball typically have a strong golf grip. Golfers who cut the golf ball usually have a weak grip.

By checking the way your hands are placed on the club, you can immediately identify if there is a problem. Grab your stick as you normally would. Look at the “V’s” that are formed by your thumb and forefinger.

Make sure your “V” formation is pointing straight down the shaft. If the “V’s” point to the left or right of the center of the shaft, adjust your hands to correct your grip.

Optimal ball position– To make contact with the ball at the right time, the ball must be just within the path of your lead foot. If the ball is too far back, you will touch the ball before the clubface is square. If the ball is too far forward, contact will be made after the club has squared off and begins to close.

Proper weight transfer– If you want to get the most out of your swing, there needs to be a shift in weight during the backswing and forward swing. To produce consistent contact with your golf ball, you need your weight to be transferred properly during your swing. This does not mean that your body sways; rather it is a change from one leg to another without swinging.

Correct body alignment– Body alignment is of paramount importance in your golf swing and even more so when driving the ball. Your body has to be aligned along a path parallel to and below your target line. A good way to judge if you’re lined up correctly is to use your stick. Put your stick along their shoulders to see which way they are pointing. Then do the same with the hips. Check that the shaft of your club is pointing towards the target line.

You should also check the position of your feet. If you place your club along the toes, are they parallel to the target line? There are some who like to open their front foot a bit to allow the hips to rotate freely.

This may look and feel different when you start out, but with your body properly aligned, you have a much better chance of reaching your goal.
