Protect Your Investment: How To Wash Designer Denim The Right Way

Premium jeans are not cheap. You can end up $ 350 poorer with just one pair. This is because they are impeccably manufactured and it takes a lot of quality workmanship to produce a single pair. So when it comes to caring for your jeans, you may want to give them a little love. Here are some tips on how to wash designer denim and make your money last.

  • Flip Them – You paid a lot of money for your pants, so you certainly want them to last. Before throwing your jeans in the washing machine, turn them over. This will protect the details in the pocket and prevent the color from fading. Washing them this way will also reduce the friction that develops from washing multiple jean items together.
  • Cold Water Wash: When washing designer denim, avoid using hot or even lukewarm water. Set your machine to use the delicate cycle and let it fill with cold water. Unless your jeans are excessively dirty, you should keep the water temperature below 110 degrees.
  • Use a mild detergent – Soap that is free of perfumes and dyes, like Arm & Hammer, is ideal. When adding your detergent, make sure it dissolves in the water, as this will remove any soap powder residue on your jeans. Colored liquid detergent can also stain clothes, so it’s a good idea to dissolve it in water as well.
  • Hang To Dry – Once the wash cycle is complete, gently remove the pants from the machine and turn them right side out. Fold them lengthwise so that the legs are facing each other and the pockets are facing out. Using a trouser hanger, hang them upside down with the clasp around the cuffs or the bottom of the leg opening. Let them dry in indirect sunlight.
  • Aftercare: The number one complaint about air drying jeans is that they are quite stiff. But within 10 minutes of use, they will generally collapse and loosen. If necessary, use the lowest heat setting possible when ironing them afterwards.

High-end jeans will cost you a penny, but in the end, it’s worth it. Knowing how to properly wash your designer denim will extend the life of your pants and they will last you for months, if not years. Consider it an investment!
